(Timestamp 1:44) Agenda items 1a-1d were approved with minimal discussion. 1d touches on reimbursement for the county for clearing storm debris on the two-lane highway right-of-way.
(Timestamp 4:52) Chancery and Circuit Clerk items were also swiftly approved. It was explained that agenda item 3c (Upgrade Communicator on Fire System) was for replacing an old fire notification system at the Courthouse. The board had a quote from ASI for $1000 to install the new system.
(Timestamp 9:10) Emergency Management Director Curt Clayton explained some points on the new agreement between the Mississippi Emergency Communication Authority (MECA) and the Union County Emergency Communication District (UCECD). Clayton said that previously MEMA had taken control of the fees paid for 911. Under the new agreement, the money will be returned to the county. The agreement requires the county to hold 30% of the money in a special account to be available for future equipment upgrades. The remaining 70% will be available for 911 administration, which Clayton said would be a good boost in the operating budget. The board approved the plan.
(Timestamp 11:15) The board approved the emergency purchase of two 333 P-Tier Compact loaders (skid steers) at $95,520.64 each (a total of $191,041.28).
(Timestamp 12:55) The board approved hiring Chris Roaton as a full-time Jailer and Dylan Flaker as a part-time Jailer, effective February 17, 2026.
(Timestamp 14:50) Tax office items were approved. Tax assessor Tameri Dunnam explained that the petitions for tax reduction or notice of increases had to be adjusted when mapping errors were discovered or in one case when a property burned down.
The board then adjourned till Monday, March 2, 2026.
