Charles Nelson Griffin, 83

March 16, 1942 – February 28, 2026

Charles Nelson Griffin, age 83, joined his precious wife, Mrs. Margaret Sue, and all those who had gone before him in his heavenly home on Friday, February 28, 2026, after departing this earthly life at New Albany Health and Rehabilitation.

In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Charles will be cremated, and no services are scheduled at this time. His family deeply appreciates the prayers, love, and kind thoughts shared during this tender season of loss.

Born March 16, 1942, in Chickasaw County, Mr. Charles was the son of the late James Sidney and Mildred Easley Griffin. He received his education through the Houston Public School System before beginning a career that would define much of his life. For over thirty years, Mr. Charles proudly devoted himself to Union Construction. What some might have called work was truly a passion for him. He spent countless days building roads, operating equipment, and putting in an honest day’s labor beneath the Mississippi sun. A man who believed in the value of hard work, he took pride in every mile of road laid and every job completed.

Yet, while his career meant a great deal to him, the greatest love of Mr. Charles’ life was always his wife, Margaret. He truly knew the treasure he had in her, and he loved Mrs. Margaret more deeply than words could ever fully express. Their love was the kind that stood the test of time, built on devotion, loyalty, and a quiet understanding that only the two of them shared.

After Margaret’s passing in 2014, Mr. Charles continued on with the same gentle heart and steadfast spirit. The love he once poured so deeply into his marriage began to shine even brighter through his grandchildren. Those granddaughters absolutely hung the moon in their Papaw’s eyes, and he could not have been prouder of them. He cherished every moment spent together, whether it was in the kitchen fixing them his famous Billy Goat Pie or sharing stories about one of his lifelong heroes, John Wayne. In fact, those girls might have had to share Papaw’s admiration just a little with “The Duke,” though he loved them more than anything.

Mr. Charles was a man who led by example. Through quiet actions rather than loud words, he taught those around him how to work hard, how to build things with your own two hands, and most importantly, how to live honestly and treat others with respect.

While his presence will be missed beyond measure, his family finds comfort in the promise of eternal life. We do not grieve as those without hope. Instead, we rest in the assurance that Mr. Charles — a Papaw so deeply loved — has now been reunited with his beloved Margaret, walking hand in hand once again and enjoying the many blessings he longed for. That promise brings a peace and comfort that only faith can give.

Those left to cherish his memories include his three granddaughters, Lauren Gaines, Kayla Wade, and Krystal Gaines, his great grandchildren, Gavin Coleman, Gracie Wade, Nikki Wade, Blaze Cameron, Sidney Pipkin, and Nora Pipkin, his sisters, Kay Martin, Pauline Brassfield, and Dorothy Walls, his special friend, Kay Potts, his friends at Arden Hospice and New Albany Health and Rehab, and his multiple nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Charles was also preceded in death by five brothers, J W, John, Avery, Fletcher, and Randy Griffin, one sister, Dora Griffin, and two brother in laws, John Martin and David Walls.
