Mary Lee Powell, 88

December 18, 1937  –  March 9, 2026

Mary Powell of Bartlett, TN, left this world on March 9, 2026 at the age of 88. Also known as “mammaw” she filled her family’s lives with kindness, laughter, and her famous chocolate pies, banana puddings and Sunday dinners . Thanksgivings were extra special as she cooked all week, had her house already decorated for Christmas and the whole family piled in their house for a wonderful weekend.

Gardening was a favorite pastime of hers, even earning “yard of the month” while in her 70’s. She started quilting when her first grandchild was born and continued to make a quilt for each of them. But first and foremost , she loved her family. As a mother she was the guiding light of what a wife and mother should be. Lessons that will never be forgotten. As “mammaw”, she was the best there could be. One grandson even referred to her once as “Mother Theresa”.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Gladys Lee, her husband Doug, her daughter Sheila Martin, son-in-law Rick Myers, 7 brothers, 2 sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughters Cathy Straub(Rick), Connie Linscott (Robert), and son-in-law Chuck Martin. Her loving grandchildren include Jason Martin(Christy), Mark Martin(Kayla), Don Myers(Jennifer), Paul Myers(Alice), Brandon Foster and Lauren Linscott. She also leaves twelve adoring great grandchildren, Taylor, Alexis, Colton, Kynlee, Owen, Haven, June, Ivy, Kathryn, Lily, Gavin and Brodie.

Visitation will be held March 14, 2027, from 11:00-12:00 at United Funeral Service in New Albany, MS with a graveside service to follow at Sherman Cemetery in Sherman, MS.
