Linda Moody Cosper, 83
November 22, 1942 – July 5, 2026
Linda Moody Cosper, 83, peacefully passed away on July 5, 2026, at Sanctuary Hospice House, Tupelo. Born on November 22, 1942, she was the oldest of seven children born to Mae Allison Moody and Rev. James Moody. Linda was a 1960 graduate of Macedonia High School. Following graduation, she and Billy Cosper were married and enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage before his death in 2009.
She is survived by her children, Carol Riddell (Tally) and Tony Cosper (Dayle); her grandson, Jaysen Manning (Melissa); and, her great grandchildren, Will and Emily Manning. Her sisters, Ann Washington (Tommy), Cubelle Mount (Bobby-deceased), and Mary Lee Washington (Dean), sister-in-law Teresa Moody survive her, and a friend, Shelia Barton, who she thought of as family. Her brothers, James Lindell, Danny, and David Moody as well as a special sister-in-law, Dot Alexander, predeceased her. Linda’s extended family includes many nieces and nephews who she loved and adored.
Linda’s career included retirement from AT&T (BellSouth), followed by clerical positions and ultimately serving as Union County Deputy Chancery Clerk. She eventually concluded this chapter of life with a second retirement and transitioned to her most rewarding “job” of caring for her great grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and celebrating their accomplishments. She was a seamstress extraordinaire, fashioning heirloom smocked dresses, handmade Santa dolls, a very special wedding dress for granddaughter Melissa, and mending many a pair of blue jeans.
Linda was a member of First Baptist Church of New Albany and the Janie Conway and Susan Feather Adult Ladies Sunday School Class, attending faithfully until her health declined.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8; 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Services to honor her life will be held on Thursday, July 9, at 11:00 a.m., all at United Funeral Service. Linda will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Billy, at Wallerville Baptist Church cemetery.
The family expresses extreme gratitude to the staff of Sanctuary Hospice House for their exceptional care and compassion. In lieu of flowers the family would be honored by memorial gifts to Sanctuary Hospice House or the First Baptist Church of New Albany Investing Today/Impacting Eternity Fund.
