Baptist Hospital Union County took another large step toward helping many local students get their upcoming school year off to a healthy and successful start with the Back-toSch00l Health Fair. This year’s Fair celebrated “Freedom, Health and Fun” in honor of America’s 250th Birthday Celebration. Red, White and Blue were definitely the colors of the day.

The event, scheduled for Saturday July 25 was moved inside the hospital due to weather-related concerns. (Our favorite local weather watcher Joe Wilson told NEMiss.News that 4.5 inches of rain fell in New Albany on the day before the Fair.) The hospital’s hallways were loaded with exhibit tables from dozens of community participants providing information on assistance and support available to students and their families. Questions about most any type of physical health, mental health, safety, security, etc. could be answered by local providers of those services.

Most every child sported a free backpack full of supplies and hands full of bags filled with additional supplies, gifts, treats and information from the exhibitors. Free health screenings were available and the Mississippi Department of Health’s Mobile Immunization Unit was on hand to  provide any necessary vaccinations.  The Union County Sheriff’s office was on hand with patrol vehicles for viewing and siren testing. Refreshments were served in the hospital’s cafeteria.

The annual Back-to-School Health Fair is hosted by Baptist Hospital Union County with the support of its Community Partners. The Fair is free and is an important event each year for local parents preparing their families for the new school year.
