Julia Katherine Cobb Cooper, 90

February 19, 1936 – August 4, 2026

Julia Katherine Cobb Cooper, affectionately known as Judy Cooper, passed away on August 4, 2026, in New Albany, Mississippi, at the age of 90, surrounded by her family.

She was born on February 19, 1936, in New Albany, Mississippi, to Rush Harold Cobb and Juanita Bailey Cobb, both of whom preceded her in death. Judy lived her life in the community she loved and was known by many as a funny, friendly, and caring woman whose warm personality left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Judy was a retired furniture factory worker, having worked for many years at both Futorian and Benchcraft. She was a dedicated and dependable employee who took pride in her work and the friendships she made along the way. Her strong work ethic and steady presence were part of the example she set for her family and those around her.

She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and lived her life as a Christian. Her faith was an important part of who she was, and it guided her through the joys and challenges of her life. Judy found comfort in gospel music, especially the sounds of Gaither Gospel Music, which she loved to sit and listen to. Her favorite time of year was winter, and she especially delighted in snowy days, which brought her a special kind of joy.

Judy adored all of her family and it was evident to all who knew her. She especially treasured her grandsons and their families. She was deeply proud of her great-grandchildren, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her daughter, Regina Cooper Garrett and her husband Mike, was a beloved part of her life, and Judy held a special place in her heart for her son-in-law, Mike Garrett, whom she considered her favorite person in the whole world.

She also enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. Judy loved peanut M&Ms and could often be found working crossword puzzles. She was a people person who enjoyed a good old conversation and had a gift for making others feel comfortable and welcome. Her cheerful spirit and easy way of talking with others made her a joy to be around, and her presence will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Regina Cooper Garrett and Mike; her grandsons, John Garrett and Cameal, Bo Garrett, and Drew Garrett and Jamie; her great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Cora, and Audrey; and her sister, Ollie Faye Cobb Hale. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Carlton Cooper, as well as her parents and her brother-in-law Roy Hale.

Services to honor her life will be Friday, August 7, 2026, at Bethel Baptist Church in Etta, MS, at 11:00 am with Dr. David Grumbach and Bro. Tim McMillen officiating. A visitation will be held Thursday night, August 6, 2026, from 5:00 ~ 7:00 pm at United Funeral Service. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, in her memory.
