Carmen Vanessa Jones, 71
March 11, 1955 – August 29, 2026
Ms. Carmen Vanessa “Lil Lucy” “Sista” Yia Yia” Jones was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Jessie and Louise Jones in Marshall County, MS on March 11, 1955.
Carmen accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Hill C.M.E Church. She was a good and faithful servant throughout her life. She went on to become a member of the Women’s Missionary Society and a member of the Trustee Board. She also later went on to become the church secretary.
She graduated from Sand Flat High School in the BEST class of 1973. She then went on to graduate from Rust College in 1977 where she pledged the Magnificent Sorority of Delta Sigma Theta on the Fall line of The 13 Watergates.
Carmen was employed at Humco which would later become PMC BioGenix in Memphis, TN as a chemical laboratory technician and later became one of the lab supervisors. She worked there until she retired in 2021.
Carmen Jones said her “see you later” on August 29, 2026, in the comfort of her own home. She was preceded in death by her parents Jessie and Louise, aunts Annie Mae Isom and Pauline Williams, sister Juanita Gill, nephews James Euell Jr. and Jeremy Euell, 2 best friends Jannie Bowers and Ruth Bradford, a host of classmates, and many other family members.
She is survived by her daughter Caryn Coleman, her favorite grandchild Carrah Coleman, her bonus son Christopher Keels, extended family The Colemans, all of Memphis, TN; 2 sisters, Irene Seldon *(Larry Seldon) and Huelean Jackson *(Rev. O.M. Jackson) both of Mt. Pleasant, MS; an honorary brother, Rev. Willie Hoey (Cathlean) of Holly Springs, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, classmates and the Pleasant Hill church family.
Visitation will be held 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, September 4, 2026, at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 140 North Memphis Street, Holly Springs, MS 38635.
Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Pleasant Hill CME Church, 4244 Hwy 72 Holly Springs, MS 38635.
Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill CME Church in Holly Springs, MS.
