Don L. Jones, 74

August 25, 1952 – September 24, 2026

PLANTERSVILLE – Don L. Jones entered this earth on August 25, 1952 and entered heaven on September 24, 2026. He was born in Amory, MS to Lockie Jones and Pearlie Mae Jones Watson. He lived in Hatley until he was nine years old and then moved to east Tupelo graduating from Tupelo High School. When he married the love of his life, Nita Ann Chaney, they settled in Plantersville. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in June. Don was saved at an early age and attended Temple Grove Baptist Church.

Don grew up learning the trade of auto body shop repair from his stepdad, Wilbert Watson. Don and his late brother, Terry, were among the best repairmen in all North MS. He worked with Dossett Big 4 for many years. After a back injury, he started working as an Insurance Adjuster with MetLife.

Don loved the outdoors hunting and fishing. He grew up riding dirt bikes and, later in life, owned several Harleys. He rode his motorcycle all over the United States. He was a jack of all trades and could fix or build anything his family dreamed of.

His greatest love was his family especially his grandsons and great-grandchildren. He was a constant presence at all their events, especially baseball games. He taught them many lessons they will carry with them in life.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 PM Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026, in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo with his pastor, Bro. Terry Montgomery officiating. Pastor Tommy Ray Dabbs will preside at the graveside service at Lee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 PM to 5 PM Saturday and from Noon-service time on Sunday, all at Holland-Tupelo which is honored to serve their dear friends and neighbors. Don leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife Nita Chaney Jones (Plantersville); his daughter, Rachel Jones Sisk (Bruce II) from Old Union; special niece, Kim Chaney and nephew, Rodney Chaney; his grandsons, Jay Sisk (Anna) of Shannon and Cody Sisk (Jolie) of Nettleton and his precious great-grands, Parker and Sadie Sisk, and his sister-in-law Betty Tucker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Terry Jones (Tammy) of Tupelo, his in-laws, Speck and Clara Mae Chaney, and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Pallbearers will be Cory and Jagger Chaney, David Chaney, Tomas Tucker, Bobbie Kimble, Jody Kidd, and Rodney Chaney.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Estes, Steve Estes, Joe Fowler, John Hall, Jim Alexander, and the Bucktail Hunting Club.
