Jean Edwards, 76

December 17, 1949 – September 30, 2026

BREWER – Ruby Jean Edwards, affectionately known as Jean, 76, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Sanctuary Hospice House following a brief battle with cancer.

Born December 17, 1949, to Atwell and Qmilla Rogers, she was a lifelong resident of Shannon and the Brewer community. Jean graduated from Shannon High School in 1967, where she enjoyed basketball, sewing, and cooking. On November 23, 1966, she married the love of her life, Lee “PeeWee” Edwards. They shared 56 years of marriage before his passing in 2023.

Jean had a long and dedicated career. She worked for Central Service Association before beginning employment with Tombigbee Electric Power Association in 1982. She retired in 2014 after 32 years of service, having worked as an Administrative Assistant and Human Resources Representative. Jean took great pride in her work and especially enjoyed helping active and retired employees with their benefits.

Jean was the longest-standing member of Brewer Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for many years. She was a member of the Adult III Sunday School Class and was active in the WMU. Over the years, she served on church committees, helped with Bible School and Ladies’ Night Out, and participated in other church activities. She enjoyed helping others in her church and community. Gospel music held a special place in her heart and she loved singing in the choir at church and listening to gospel music each day.

Jean was known for her strong work ethic, integrity, generous heart, and caring spirit. She loved spending time in her kitchen cooking and baking for family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. Her tea cakes, caramel cakes, iced brownies, cookies, candies, homemade pimento cheese, and chicken salad were among the many favorites she lovingly shared. It was rare for anyone to leave Jean’s home empty-handed.

She especially loved springtime and working outdoors. Jean enjoyed tending to her flowers, flower beds, large ferns, and yard, as well as sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds. She and PeeWee always enjoyed their time together working in the yard. She also loved sports, especially college and professional basketball, football, and girls’ softball.

Above all, Jean treasured her family. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, extended Edwards family, and many friends. She enjoyed frequent visits with family and loved sharing her baked goods, laughter, and kindness with those around her.

Jean is survived by her son, William Edwards of Shannon; her daughter, Ashley Leigh Lindley (Chris) of Saltillo; her sisters, Minnie Dale Dillard of Shannon and Dona Wise (Gib) of Okolona; her brothers, Carl Rogers (Geneva) of Houston and Tommy Rogers (Dottie) of Okolona; three grandchildren, Michael Edwards, Courtney Roberts, and Graci Leigh Lindley; two step-grandchildren, Ashlee Floyd and Mandi Guthrie; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; her extended Edwards family; and a host of treasured friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lee “PeeWee” Edwards; her parents, Atwell Rogers and Qmilla Rogers; her sisters, Ludene McCormick Haney and Betty Jernigan; and her dear friend, Linda Tully George.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Dale Rogers, Trey Wise, Andy Rogers, Brian Rogers, Kevin McCormick and Mark Dillard. Honorary pallbearers will be Men of the Adult III Sunday School Class of Brewer Baptist Church and TEPA Employees.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 1, from 4 PM until 7 PM, and Friday, October 2, 2026, from 10 AM to service time. Services will be held Friday, October 2, at 11 AM at Brewer Baptist Church, with Bro. Stacy McCollum, Joe Dye, and Keith Wiseman officiating. A private family graveside service will follow at Brewer Cemetery. Holland Funeral Directors – Tupelo Chapel is honored to serve the family.

Jean will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her deep faith, her generosity, her laughter, and the countless ways she cared for others. Whether through a home-cooked meal, something freshly baked from her kitchen, a card sent to someone who needed encouragement, or simply her presence, Jean had a special way of making people feel loved. Her memory will continue to fill the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her tender spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
