Izola B. Moore, 82
June 19, 1944 – September 30, 2026
Izola B. Moore was born on June 19, 1944, in Okolona, Mississippi, to the late George W. Buchanan, Sr. and Eunice Griffin-Ware. Izola confessed her faith and accepted Christ at an early age. Later in life, she united with Palestine Missionary Baptist Church in Van Vleet, MS, where she found great joy in singing in the choir and praising God. Izola was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert L. Woodard and to this union three children were born and later in life she married Leo Moore.
On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Izola peacefully made her transition from this earthly life at Pontotoc Health and Rehabilitation Nursing Home in Pontotoc, MS, with her loving family by her side. Izola lived a life centered around her love for God and her family. One of her greatest joys was watching her children and grandchildren play basketball. After retiring from International Paper in Houston, MS, Izola enjoyed caring for her indoor and outdoor plants, which kept her busy and brought her much happiness.
Izola was preceded in death by her mother, Eunice Ware; stepfather, Lawrence Ware Sr.; father, George W. Buchanan, Sr.; her husbands, Robert L. Woodard Jr. and Leo Moore; eight brothers, James “Sonny” Buchanan, Carley E. Ware, Booker T. Ware, L.C. Buchanan, Michael Buchanan, Willie B. Buchanan, Chester Buchanan, and Charles Buchanan; and two sisters, Geneva Buchanan-McBride and Essie Dean Buchanan-Jackson.
Izola leaves to cherish her precious memory to her two daughters, Daisy (Michael) Hobson and Brenda Woodard, Houlka, MS; and her son, Robert (Velma) Woodard, Columbus, MS. She also leaves eight grandchildren Michael Hobson Jr, Izola Woodard, Courtney Woodard, Marissa (Ricardo) Pittman, Kayla Woodard, Jasmine Spencer, Robert (Breja) Woodard II, and Ma’Darius (Ariana) Hobson, and three great-grandchildren Keyara Reed, Jamari Pittman, and Robert Woodard III. She is also survived by two brothers, Lawrence (Ada) Ware Jr., Houlka, MS, and George (Sharon) Buchanan Jr., Kalamazoo, MI; five sisters, Laura Buchanan, Wren, MS, Marie (James) Cunningham and Elizabeth (Clarence) Hale, Shannon, MS, Elnora Buchanan, Kalamazoo, MI, and Inez Bell, FL. Izola also leaves three sisters-in-law, Lois Ware, Houlka, MS, Sarah Gladney, Houston, MS, and Pearl Buchanan, Okolona, MS, along with a host of beautiful nieces, handsome nephews, loving relatives, and dear friends.
Izola’s life was a beautiful testament to faith, family, love, and perseverance. She will forever be remembered for her loving heart, joyful spirit, and the happiness she found in the people and simple blessings that meant so much to her. Though she has taken her rest, the love she shared and the memories she created will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Thompson Chapel C.M.E. Church, 937 County Road 308, Houlka, MS. Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Thompson Chapel C.M.E. Church, 937 County Road 308, Houlka, MS.
