Susan Flewellen Heard, 79
June 3, 1947 – October 27, 2026
TUPELO – Susan Flewellen Heard, 79, of Tupelo passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on October 27, 2026, after a brief illness. She was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on June 3, 1947, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tupelo. After graduating from Starkville High School, she attended the University of Alabama and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Mississippi University for Women (MUW).
In 1983 she established a company, “Daddy’s Duck”, hand painting beautiful children’s furniture, Christmas and Easter baskets, armoires, rocking chairs, bird houses, and hope chests. She was an accomplished artist throughout her life, but her biggest accomplishment in life was raising her three beloved boys into thoughtful and successful men. She emphasized leadership in her children, having them in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and sports such as football, soccer, tennis and baseball. Susan was a mom to many of her children’s friends; always ready to listen to anyone who needed advice. She spent the last two decades as a dedicated and loving Big Mama to her grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.
Susan is survived by her children, Dr. Richard F. Heard Jr. D.D.S. of Algood, TN; William Flewellen Heard of Tupelo, MS; John Rhodes Heard (Tiffany) of Memphis, TN; and her grandchildren, John Rhodes Heard Jr., Lily Kathleen Heard, and Hill Kohler Heard, all of Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommie Sue and William Crawford Flewellen, and her sister Mary Jane Fromm.
She has been a loving and supportive mother, grandmother, mother in-law, and friend to many, and she will be missed dearly.

A celebration of life will be held in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at 5281 Cliff Gookin Blvd, Tupelo, MS, at 2 PM on Sunday, November 1, 2027. The family will receive visitors for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private. Holland Funeral Directors – Tupelo Chapel is honored to serve the family. A reception following the service will be held at Ikey’s Market (formerly Daddy’s Duck), 603 Clayton Avenue, Tupelo, MS.
