Deck Your Yard opens in Myrtle

Myrtle, MS….Sarah Brock Farr has teamed with the Jeff Galloway family of Myrtle to relocate the very successful and interesting Deck Your Yard (Now called Deck Your Yard and More) business to 1751 Hwy 178, Myrtle from its former leased location on Bankhead in New Albany.

“This will give us a permanent home for our business, allow us to be open more hours and have plenty of room for an expanding inventory” said  Farr.  “We are easily accessible from the Myrtle exit from I 22 at the end of Willow St.” added Galloway who actually performed much of the transformation construction.  “With this alliance we can expand from our pots and yard art to a wide variety of deck and yard accessories over time,”  Galloway continued.

“The repurposed building formerly used for storage by the Owen family has been purchased and creatively redesigned to offer an appealing front to Hwy 178 and the interior has undergone extensive remodel to create a beautiful climate controlled showroom for the products during inclement weather,” says Levi Smith, a senior civil engineering student at Ole Miss and part of the Galloway alliance. “ It will hold much more stock in a protected area and has better lighting and better airflow for the customers,” added Smith  who provided much of the creative inspiration to the repurposing project.  Entranceways and bathrooms will accommodate any wheelchair users who might want to visit.

For history buffs the front show windows from the former Coffee Mercantile Store in early Myrtle have been repurposed to front display areas within the showroom.  Much of the lumber from that building is used in the construction of the upper floor.  Other artifacts from the area will also appear over time.  A hand drawing of the town of Myrtle about 1940 with names of residents has been recently donated in an ongoing effort to display local history items.  Marie White, Myrtle town clerk says, “we are really excited to welcome a new business to Myrtle especially considering the high quality of the merchandise that will be available here and nowhere else in the area.  Myrtle is a great little community with a rich history and much to offer residents and visitors alike and this will be one more plus for us”, added White.

A soft opening is planned on Cinco De Mayo (May 5, 2016) at 8 AM to 5 PM to allow customers an opportunity to make Mother’s day selections.  The same hours will apply to Friday and Saturday of this week.  Cash or check only during this advance period please.  We will have gift cards available for purchase.   We will not open again until our grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony which will follow in about two weeks with plenty of food and refreshments.  A future notice will appear for this event and we encourage former and new customers or visitors to visit us on Facebook for the latest inventory.  “Our ongoing focus will be to offer the finest in imported Asian crafted pottery of all sizes, shapes and colors from which to choose.  We will also stock many of the traditional and trendy yard art items, including water features, as well as useful items for the home, deck and yard” added Sarah.
