A surprising three races were settled in the Municipal Primary election
In a rather surprising turn, all three of the contested municipal races which could conceivably have been settled in the primary were, in fact, settled.
Jeff Olson handily won the three way New Albany Mayor’s race. Olson needed to win 50% plus one of the total ballots cast in the race in order to avoid a run off. He took over 56%, with incumbent Tim Kent receiving a little over 24% and P. J. Doyle taking a little over 19%.
Ward 4 Alderman Will Tucker was reelected with over 72% of the votes cast in his race against Brandon Pannell’s 26%.
In the Alderman-at-Large race, Incumbent Keith Conlee received over 51% vs Johnny Anderson’s 46%.
Current Chief of Police Chris Robertson was unopposed in his race, as was Ward 2 incumbent Drew Horn.
This election was technically a party primary, though there were actually no Democrats running. The remaining races will be decided in the June 3rd General Municipal elections, when several Independent candidates will be on the ballot. This will include the Ward 1 Independent incumbent and the Ward 2 Republican incumbent who are unopposed. Also on the June 3rd ballot, there will be two Ward 3 candidates, formerly Democrats, now registered as Independents.
