Adopt-a-Street program gaining business, club, individual sponsors
On the day of its citywide Spring Cleanup event on March 20, 2021, Main Street announced the launch of its new Adopt-a-Street program. Since then, the program has already garnered several sponsors who have adopted their own streets. Among them are local businesses like Master-Bilt Refrigeration Solutions (Refrigerated Solutions Group), King Therapies, and John Stroud Agency. Organizations like the Pilot Club and the New Albany Park Commission have also stepped up and plenty of individuals and private citizens have come forward to pitch in and sponsor a piece of road.
By signing up to sponsor a portion of street to keep tidy and free of litter, participants receive free garbage bags as well as use of trash-grabbers and safety vests to use in their clean-up efforts. “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to take care of their area and remove the litter around town or the county,” said Adopt-a-Street director Emily Draffen. “Every little bit helps.”
Added Draffen, “Of course, ideally, people would stop littering in the first place, but I hope that the cleanup efforts of the Adopt-a-Street program will help shine a light on the issue of litter and bring attention to the great folks committed to keeping our city a clean and beautiful place to live. Maybe these cleanup efforts will inspire others.”
Businesses, individuals and civic groups who would like more information on adopting a street can contact Emily Draffen at emily@visitnewalbany.com or (662) 266-0796.
