Al Povall Luncheon with Books

Tuesday, October 17, Mississippi author Al Povall will discuss his book A Time Remembered, Ole Miss 1945-1970 at Luncheon with Books at the Jennie Stephens Smith Library in New Albany. Mr. Povall is a native of Lexington, MS. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1963 with a BA. After serving as a Naval Officer he returned to the University and earned a law degree. He is now retired and living in Oxford.

In A Time Remembered, Povall looks at the culture and social mores from the time the veterans returned from World War II through the turbulent 1960’s, ending with the Viet Nam War. This book gives a look at Ole Miss during the time of Coach Johnny Vaught and Chancellor J.D. Williams. This was the time of the Miss Americas, the Meredith Riots, rock-and-roll, and dry vs. wet in our state.

New Century Club will host a light lunch beginning at 11:30AM. Al Povall will begin his review at noon.
