Albert “BJ” Hewitt, Jr., 58

September 29, 1966 – August 21, 2025

Albert Thomas Kenneth “BJ” Hewitt, Jr left this world on August 21, 2025 after a long battle with cancer which left him bowed but not broken, tired but not tragic, and on to the next life with a spirit of rock and roll and the biggest heart anyone has ever had.

An iconoclast and icon, Ken was born in Greensboro North Carolina on September 29, 1966. However, when he moved to Tupelo in 1978, BJ was born. His infectious spirit and joy of life guided him on many an adventure, all soundtracked to the heaviest of metal. He spent many years as a small business owner, operating a landscaping company with his father called Small Jobs Co Inc, which he gave the identifying nickname of the “Yard Dogs”. For many years in Tupelo, everybody knew the truck with the dog with sunglasses and a do rag on the side that he had designed, being quite a talented artist.

However, he was much more than a free spirit, an artistic soul, and someone who was down for a party. He was a beloved son, brother, lover, friend, father, and Pappy, perhaps the greatest title he ever held. His family meant the world to him, and his family included many that weren’t bound by blood, but by choice.

He leaves behind his boys, Tommy Hewittt (Phoebe) and Brandon Judson (Ashley), and his daughter Gabby Copeland. He also leaves his grandchildren, Austin, Anderson, and Addilyn Hewitt; Audrey, Greyson, and William Hewitt; Jasper and Will Hoguin. He also leaves behind the love of his life Charletta Copeland, his sister Juanita Sheffield (Mark) and brother Josh Hewitt (Aimee) along with many nieces and nephews who will miss their Uncle Ken.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Tom and Jenny Hewitt, brother Andy Hewitt, and grandson Benjamin Judson Hewitt.

Per his wishes, there will be no formal service. Per his family’s wishes, please enjoy one bourbon, one scotch, and one beer for BJ.
