Anita Roberts, 88
March 27, 1937 – June 29, 2026
Anita Frances Speck Roberts passed away on June 29, 2026, at Mykales Assisted Living in New Albany, Mississippi. She was born on March 27, 1937, in New Albany, Mississippi, and lived a life marked by resolve and strength. Anita was a Christian and a faithful member of Locust Grove Baptist Church, where her faith was an important part of her life.
Anita was the wife of the late Jeral Roberts and the daughter of the late Houston W. Speck and Birdie Mae Snider Speck. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Diane Roberts Pirkle, and her brother, David E. Speck. She is survived by her son-in-law, Gregory D. Pirkle, her sister-in-law, Patricia C. Speck, and her two treasured grandchildren, Tyler Gregory Pirkle and Megan Brooke Pirkle Matthews and her husband Trevor. She also leaves behind Gail Willard who was the only person Anita would ever allow to “fix” her hair, and who visited and pampered her routinely after her health declined. She also leaves behind Stephanie Waldrop and staff – her “family” at Mykales Assisted Living,
Anita retired from BNA Bank after years of dedicated service. She was known for being organized and meticulous, keeping receipts and guaranty information even for items she no longer owned. She couldn’t find the battery for the leaf blower that she purchased 15 years ago, but give her 15 minutes and she could whip out the receipt showing what she paid for it.
In her personal life, Anita loved cooking and baking, especially for her grandchildren, whom she adored deeply. Time spent with them was among her greatest pleasures, and she took great pride in showing her love through the meals and treats she prepared. She also enjoyed traveling and welcomed the opportunity to see new places and make lasting memories. Anita was a shrewd Rook player and would never “let” you win.
Anita will be remembered for her devotion to her family and the determined way that she lived her life.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Locust Grove Baptist Church from 11:30 a.m. until funeral service time at 1:00 p.m. Bro. Doug Horton will officiate. Burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery.
The family request that memorial donations be made to Locust Grove Baptist Church in New Albany, MS, in lieu of flowers.
