Annie Lois Watson Pannell passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, at the New Albany Health and Rehab in New Albany, MS. Born on July 30, 1929, in New Albany, Mississippi, she was a beacon of warmth and love throughout her 96 years.
As a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Ann leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will be cherished by all who knew her. She is survived by her loving son, Larry Pannell and his wife Sandra; her cherished brother-in-law, Dean Weeden; her adored five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Ann was predeceased by her dedicated husband, Lester Orr Pannell, Jr.; her beloved daughter, Patricia Diane Smiley; her parents, Sherman Lee Watson and Addie Hogue Watson; and her dear sister, Mary Weeden.
Ann spent many years contributing to her community through both her work at Futorian Mfg. and her numerous acts of service as a homemaker. Her commitment to faith and service was evident as a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where she previously served as a Sunday School Teacher and church secretary.
Those who knew Ann will remember her for the joy and laughter she brought into their lives. Her sense of humor was as enduring as it was endearing. She had the unique ability to turn everyday moments into treasured memories, captured by her funny, loving, and kind-hearted nature. A fervent fan of “Wheel of Fortune,” Ann could often be found in her favorite chair, solving puzzles with the precision of a seasoned contestant.
The life Ann led was a testament to the beauty of simplicity, the strength of faith, and the immeasurable impact of small acts of love. Her unwavering grace through life’s ups and downs will continue to inspire her family, who celebrate her memory with stories of her kindness and laughter. Ann’s spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of feeling her love, learning from her wisdom, and laughing at her wit.
A visitation will be held at United Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until funeral service time at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Glenfield Memorial Gardens.
