TUPELO – Anthony Deon Witherspoon died Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. He was 52 years old. Born November 18, 1972 in Detroit, MI to the late Haywood Witherspoon and Delores Jones, he lived most of his life in the greater Tupelo area. He graduated from Tupelo High School in 1992 and furthered his education by attending college in Memphis, ultimately being certified as a Surgical Technician. He worked in several health care facilities and spent the last 10 years on staff at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the People’s Community Baptist Church in Tupelo. He confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Salem MB Church and later attended Kimble Chapel MB Church. A man who enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest, Anthony loved being in conversation with family and friends. A practical jokester, he was a jack of all trades and his hobbies included music, dancing, mowing yards and piddling with old cars! Always the life of the party, Anthony cut a wide path in 52 years and will long be cherished by family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 PM Sunday, June 22, 2025 at Peoples Community Baptist Church, 1202 Lawndale, Tupelo. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 6 PM Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo and from 12 PM to service time Sunday at the church. Burial will take place at New Salem, MB Church Cemetery in Ponotoc Co. Holland Funeral Directors – Tupelo Chapel is honored to serve the family.
He is survived by his mother, Delores Thomas; 9 children, Ebony Ivy, Champalia Richey, Quermesha Ivy Buckingham (Stantrell), Aushiana Ivy (Carlisha), Anastasia Witherspoon, Trinity Carothers, Jayden Friar, Taiquan Carothers, and Phoenix Witherspoon; grandchildren, Kayleigh, Jermiah, Camy’ree, Krislee, Donovan, Iveigh, Kambree, A’railynn, Synturee, Sevan; siblings, Larry Witherspoon, Geoffrey Jones (Jacinta), Dwight Witherspoon (Mary), Jason Witherspoon (Jessica), Christopher Thomas (Iris), Lisa Ratliff (William), Beverly King (Lura), Tawnyia Freeman (Michael), Anitra Witherspoon (Jarvis), Benita Loving, and Dyerethai Bogan (Gilbert); aunts, Josphine Jones, Rev. Bernice Cummings (Jim); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was a father figure to many: Laquisha, Denarvis, Kwaevis, Zoreia, Daijsha, and Damien.
He was preceded in death by his father, Haywood Witherspoon, step-mother Sarah Witherspoon, and his grandparents, Rev. J.S. Jones and Johnnie Jones, and Dwight and Lottie Witherspoon.
Pallbearers will be Billy Ray Berry, Ramonte Green, Marcus Green, Shawn Whitfield, Chris Bumphis, Grady Stegall, Geoffrey Jones, and Earl Freeman. Honorary pallbearers will be Dwight Witherspoon, Jason Witherspoon, Chris Thomas, Jarvis Witherspoon, and Michael Freeman.
