Armed men rob store near downtown New Albany

 New Albany, MS- UPDATED 8-24-2016:

On Tuesday afternoon, August 23, 2016, two men were apprehended by the New Albany Police Department, a little over one hour after they perpetrated an armed robbery at Trio Sales, on Bankhead Street. The men were apprehended near the intersection of Highland Street and Highway 30, in New Albany.

Dorian King, age 18, was arrested, charged with armed robbery and arraigned before Justice Court Judge David Garrison. King’s bond was set at $350,000. At the time of this posting, King remained in custody at the Union County Jail.

Also arrested in the armed robbery was Jeffery Jones, age 16. Though Jones is below the age of 18, the law allows, in the circumstances of this crime, that he may be charged as an adult. At the time of this posting, Police Department authorities, the District Attorney’s office and the Juvenile authorities were still discussing how Jones’ charges will be processed.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 23rd, the armed men entered Trio Sales, near the intersection of Bankhead St. and Central Ave. The daytime armed robbery occurred within a couple of hundred yards of the Union County Courthouse. At least one of the two displayed a hand gun, threatening store personnel.

Slightly more than an hour later, two suspects were arrested by New Albany Police Department officers and are in custody pending arraignment in municipal court.

Police Chief Chris Robertson said one of those arrested is over 18 years of age and may be prosecuted as an adult. The other is believed to be a juvenile. Robertson said one of the suspects told police the two fled the scene on bicycles and the other said they ran away on foot. Police officers have interrogated the suspects and are in the process of sorting out that and other details

Robertson said some of the items taken during the robbery had been recovered from the suspects. NAnewsweb.com will publish additional information, including the name of the adult suspect, as it becomes available.
