Audrey Durell Calvery, 93

July 3, 1932 – December 24, 2025

Audrey Durell Calvery, known simply as “Durell” to all who knew and loved him, departed this earthly world and entered the presence of his dear Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, December 24, 2025, at the age of 93. He passed peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the ones who held his heart.

Funeral services honoring Mr. Durell’s life will be at 2 PM on Saturday, December 27, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home, with visitation from 12 Noon until time of service. Family friend, Bro. Doc Shelton, will officiate. Burial will follow in Tippah Memorial Gardens, with no graveside service.

Born on July 3, 1932, in a little community known as Bone Yard outside of Kossuth, Mississippi, Mr. Durell was the son of the late Orbie Monroe and Edna Earl Rainey Calvery. He received his education from Ripley High School before serving his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. On October 4, 1952, he married his beloved wife, Mrs. Pollye Gaillard Calvery, who survives him. For over seventy-three years, they shared a life built on love, commitment, and quiet devotion—raising a family, standing by one another, and proving with every year that simple faithfulness is its own kind of legacy.

A man of hard work and integrity, Mr. Durell spent his career as a carpenter with Calvery, Johnson, & Wallis until his retirement. He was the kind of man whose word was better than a contract and whose handshake held more value than any written agreement. He never needed much to be content—just honest work, the love of his family, and the peace of knowing he had done right by others.

In a world that often chases more, Mr. Durell found joy in less. He was a simple man in the very best and most honorable way—content with the blessings God placed before him and grateful for everyone. He enjoyed the quiet pleasures of life: fishing and hunting on early mornings, riding horses across the pasture, tending cattle on the farm, a good dog curled up in his lap, and a slice of coconut cake made from scratch. Above all, he cherished a home full of family and the laughter and love that came with them.

His ninety-three years were lived fully and faithfully—rooted in kindness, steadied by humility, and guided by the kind of steady, quiet strength that made others feel safe. He served his family with love, lived his days with purpose, and was a constant source of support to those who needed him. Though he will be missed beyond measure, we take comfort in knowing his body is healed, his labor is finished, and he now rests in the promises of his Savior—the One he trusted all the way home.

In addition to his wife of seventy-three years, Mrs. Pollye, memoires will continue to be cherished by his son, William Durell “Bill” Calvery, his daughter, Alice Elizabeth Calvery (Bobby), one sister, Peggy Wallis (Bruce), two granddaughters, Amber Koon (Caleb), and Haley Godwin (Brett), one grandson, Zac Cockrell, three great grandchildren, Auden Miller Pannell, Ava-Kate Claire Godwin, and Emelia Alyse Godwin, dear family friend, Micah Varner, who helped care for Mr. Durell, and by his special furry friend, Holland.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Durell was also preceded in death by his brother, Billy Dan Calvery.
