The New Albany School Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Austin Baker as New Albany High School’s Head Boys Soccer Coach at a special called meeting on February 23.
Baker has eight years of experience as an educator and soccer coach in the public school setting in Mississippi, as well as coaching club soccer. Baker also has experience playing at the community college and college level. Most recently he served as Head Boys Soccer Coach and a math teacher at D’Iberville High School.
“I am ecstatic to join the New Albany Bulldog Soccer family,” Baker said. “Our team will strive to be elite on the soccer field, in the classroom, and in the community. When you watch our team play, you will see max effort, team unity, and positive mindsets.” Baker explained that the goal is to have New Albany soccer playing at a high level that competes with quality programs of all classifications.
“We are excited about Coach Baker coming on board to lead our soccer program. The program has grown in recent years and we think Coach Baker can continue to elevate it to new heights,” said Cody Stubblefield, Athletic Director at New Albany High School. Stubblefield explained that Baker has both played and coached at a high level and in his last stop as the Head Coach at 6A D’Iberville High School, he led the Warriors to the best winning percentage the program has posted in the last decade.
“We are looking forward to Coach Baker and his family being a part of the New Albany Bulldog family,” Stubblefield added.
Baker holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Mississippi College and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Delta State University. He and his wife Lynn have one son, Levi.
