Baptist Union County to offer free nutrition class for kids

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County will host a free pediatric nutrition class on September 13, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in Café 200 located inside Baptist Union County.

The purpose of the class is to provide children ages 5 to 12 years with educational information about nutrition and healthy food choices.  The class will also include a cooking demonstration and items that the participants can take home to make healthy cooking fun.  Participants must be accompanied by an adult.

September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.  Today, 1 in 3 children or teens are considered obese.  With childhood obesity comes a host of adult problems like diabetes and high blood pressure.  Helping children overcome obesity means changing a lifestyle, including making healthy food choices.

The class is free but preregistration is required by calling 662-538-2197.

Baptist Union County, the recipient of many awards and accolades, was most recently recognized by Premier as one of only three hospitals in the nation that achieved top performance in all seven of the areas measured in Premier’s Quest collaborative.
