Baptist resumes surgeries and testing
The full range of hospital services is again available at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County (BMHUC). Elective surgeries and other non-emergency procedures had been deferred for several weeks under COVID-19 guidelines.
Those restrictions are now lifted.
“Baptist Hospital is open for business,” said Dr. H. F. Mason, BMHUC’s Chief Medical Officer. “We want everyone to know we are ready to serve all of your needs. Many have been asked to delay certain diagnostic tests and elective surgeries. We are now ready to do those.”
Dr. Mason described what he referred to as “our new normal” as the hospital returns to full service operations. “Everyone who comes into the hospital is screened, including having their temperature taken and answering a few health questions.
“People who are cleared by screening and allowed to enter the hospital will be required to wear a mask,” said Dr. Mason.“ Assuring your safety is at the forefront of everything we do.”
Measures to assure safety are in place throughout the hospital campus.
“Our staff is committed to providing a safe environment for our patients and their families,” said James Grantham, CEO and Administrator, Baptist Union County. “From patient flow to utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE), every precaution has been taken for the safety of patients, visitors, and staff.”
Patients who may now be scheduled for elective surgery will go to the hospital for pre-surgery diagnostic testing 48 to 72 hours prior to surgery.
Operations of the Baptist Cancer Center and other urgent care work continued uninterrupted during the time of restricted operations. Child birthing services continued normally.
