Baptist Union County Safety Officer receives certification

New Albany MS Don Shaffer CHEP certified

NEW ALBANY, MISS., – Don Shaffer, Lead Clinical Engineering Technician and Safety Officer at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County,  recently earned certification as a Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) by the International Board for Certification of Safety Managers. Shaffer attended training at the Mississippi Hospital Association and completed the CHEP exam in May.

Shaffer joined the Baptist team over twenty years ago in the biomed department. In December 2017, Shaffer assumed responsibilities as safety officer and emergency preparedness for Baptist Union County.

Baptist Union County offers a variety of health care services, including adult and pediatric inpatient services, maternity, surgery, and a 24-hour emergency department. Baptist Union County was recently recognized by Leapfrog with an “A” patient safety rating as well as by Healthgrades for Outstanding Patient Experience Award and Patient Safety Excellence Award. Earlier in 2019, Baptist Union County became the first hospital in Mississippi to earn five stars from The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, known as CMS, based on the hospital’s quality, outcomes, safety and patient satisfaction scores. Baptist Union County also earned recognition from The Chartis Center for Rural Health as one of the Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals in the country.
