Baptist Union County hosts free luncheon in conjunction with Heart Month
NEW ALBANY, MISS. – Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County will host a free luncheon, open to the public, which aims to raise awareness of heart disease, especially how to recognize and respond to heart attack symptoms.
The luncheon will take place on Monday, Feb. 6 at noon in the Fellowship Hall at Hillcrest Baptist Church, which is located at 216 Highway 15 South. Cardiologist Dr. Darrell Sneed of the Stern Cardiovascular Foundation is the featured speaker. Although the luncheon and program are free, pre-registration is required.

According to the Mississippi State Department of Health, cardiovascular disease, which also includes stroke, is the leading cause of death in Mississippi, accounting for more than a third of all deaths in the state. Mississippi’s cardiovascular disease mortality rate remains the highest in the nation.
Heart disease is also the leading cause of death nationwide, accounting for one in every four deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
