Baptist Union County to host free luncheon during Heart Month

NEW ALBANY, MISS.-Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County will host a free luncheon, open to the public, which aims to raise awareness of heart disease, especially how to make lifestyle choices that lead to optimal heart health and how to recognize the symptoms of a heart attack.

The luncheon will take place on Feb. 25 at noon in the Fellowship Hall at Hillcrest Baptist Church, which is located at 216 Highway 15 South. Cardiologist Dr. Christopher Ingelmo of the Stern Cardiovascular Foundation is the featured speaker.

Although the luncheon and program are free, pre-registration is required. Those interested in attending may reserve a space by calling 662-538-2613.

According to the most recent data available through the National Center for Health Statistics, Mississippi’s mortality rate from heart disease is the highest in the nation and the No. one cause of death throughout the state.

Heart disease is also the leading cause of death nationwide, accounting for one in every four deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Baptist Union County wants to serve as a resource for helping improve the overall health of this community,” said Walter Grace, CEO and administrator of the hospital.

Baptist Union County offers a variety of health care services, including adult and pediatric inpatient services, labor and delivery, a cancer center, outpatient surgery and a 24-hour expanded emergency room. The hospital also offers telemedicine and comprehensive diagnostic services, including an American College of Radiology- Accredited Breast Care Center of Excellence.
