Betty Lou Quinn, 81
September 13, 1943 – July 12, 2025
Betty Lou Quinn, affectionately known as “Bett Lou” by her southern family, peacefully departed this earthly life on the evening of Saturday, July 12, 2025, in the comfort of her home. She was 81 years old.
A Service of Remembrance honoring her life will be held at 4 PM on Tuesday afternoon, July 15, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 3 PM. Family friend, Bro. Doc Shelton will lead the service, and Ms. Betty will be laid to rest beside her loved ones in the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no graveside service.
Born on September 13, 1943, in Tippah County, Mississippi, Ms. Betty was one of fourteen children born to the late Roy and Willie Oswald Quinn. A proud graduate of Pine Grove High School, she followed in the footsteps of many family members and relocated to Illinois in search of a career. There, she spent many years working for Abbott Laboratories, where she served on the line inspecting testing kits with care and attention. After retiring, Ms. Betty returned home to Mississippi, settling right next door to her sister Jo Nell on Jeter Ridge, where she found peace and familiarity.
A Christian and devout Southern Baptist, Ms. Betty lived quietly and simply, holding true to her faith and values. She kept to herself and wasn’t one for idle chatter—but if you were family, you could count on her to speak her mind, for better or worse. She had a straightforward way about her, and while she wasn’t one to sugarcoat things, her heart was always in the right place. She had a strong sense of right and wrong and would help anyone in need—often without ever saying a word about it. She liked things a certain way, and she lived her life with quiet structure and order. Though she preferred solitude, her love for her family ran deep.
She leaves behind two devoted sisters, Jo Nell Jeter (Wade) and Mattie Thunderburk, and one brother, Jimmy Quinn (Wanda); a faithful friend and caregiver, Mrs. Lou Ann, who brought her comfort in her final days; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will remember her honesty, her heart, and her steady presence.
She is now reunited in Heaven with her parents and ten siblings: five brothers—Junior, James Edward, Thomas (Maxine), Charles (Marilyn), and Leroy—and five sisters—Kathryn, Mildred Swenkose (Chuck), Dorthy Dobnikar (Stanley), Birdie Garrison (Linley), and Virginia Robbins (Derrick).
At Ms. Betty’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gideons International in her memory, or to a charity of your choice.
Ripley Funeral Home invites all to share memories with Ms. Betty’s family.
