Betty Smithey, 86

July 15, 1938  –  January 21, 2025

Betty May Smithey, born on July 15, 1938, peacefully passed away on January 21, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of James D. Smithey and Susie B. Smithey, both of whom preceded her in death.

Betty was a devoted mother to her son, Mark Smithey, and his wife Nickie of New Albany. She was a proud grandmother to her three grandchildren: Levi Bramlett, Meg Bramlett, and Joseph Smithey, who will cherish her memory and the love she shared with them.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings: Boyd Smithey, Helen Foreman, Bobby Smithey, Danny Smithey, Bill Smithey, James D. Smithey, Jr., and Rev. Mike Smithey. She is survived by her brother, Waymon Smithey, and sisters Edna Keith, Joanne Diaz, and Brenda Browning, who will carry on her legacy of love and kindness.

Betty dedicated many loyal years of service as a bank teller at Union Planters Bank, where she formed countless friendships and made a lasting impact on those around her. She was known for her warm spirit and enjoyment in preparing meals for her family, delighting in bringing loved ones together around the dining table.

Visitation for Betty will be held on Friday, January 24, from 11 AM to 1 PM, followed by a service to celebrate her life. She will be laid to rest at Bethlehem Cemetery in New Albany, where she will forever be remembered by her family and friends.

Betty May Smithey will be deeply missed, but her spirit and the love she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
