Big turn out for Oogie Boogie event at Magnolia Civic Center
More than 200 children of all ages enjoyed the Oogie Boogie Halloween event on a cloudy, cool Saturday evening at the Magnolia Civic Center in downtown New Albany.
Children and adults dressed up in a variety of clever Halloween costumes for trick-or-treating in the Cine lobby, scary Okee-Karaoke, face painting, an Oogie Boogie photo wall and costume contests during the October 30th event.
The climax of the evening came when the Halloween celebrators gathered in the Cine Theatre, decorated with giant spiders and other appropriate items, for a special movie.
They were entertained by Disney’s “Nightmare Before Christmas Sing and Scream Movie” while they enjoyed popcorn and soft drinks.
Justin Bartlett, the new Director of the Magnolia Civic Center, went all out to stage one of the more successful family events in recent memory in New Albany.
The entire civic center – the Cine Theatre, the lobby and conference room – was extensively decorated with spider webs, ghosts and goblins, and other appropriate Halloween objects and graphics.
Two workers with the Delta Health Alliance were on hand to distribute information about the COVID vaccination.
The Saturday evening events at the Magnolia were the culmination of three days of Halloween events that included a downtown Trick or Treat Trail and outdoor movie Thursday evening.
There was a Hops and Shops “progressive beer tasting” party for adults in downtown New Albany Friday night, which was sponsored by Mitchell Distributing and New Albany Main Street.
