Bill “Paw” Carter, 81

February 23, 1943 — August 1, 2024

Bill “Paw” Carter, 81, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024, at his home in Tupelo. He was born February 23, 1943, to Ed and Ruby Carter. He was a member of the All State Basketball team at East Union High School from which he graduated in 1962. Bill drove a truck for over 40 years for Merchants Truck Line and Saia Motor Freight. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, working in his yard, listening to gospel music, and riding his side by side with his dog Bandit. The highlight of his life was being able to spend time with and spoiling his grandchildren. He was a member of the North Auburn Grocery Breakfast Club. He was married to the love of his life, Celeste Carter, for 28 years. She later passed on March 29, 2004.



He is survived by his daughters, Kim Cheney (Johnny), and Sandy McMickin (Terry); grandchildren, Brittney Jordan (Dee), Drew Jordan (Emily), Bobby Ratliff (Olivia), Lindsey Prather (Dusty), Zach McMickin (Selena), Allison McMickin, Jonathan Cheney (Bethanne), and Rhiannon Robinson; brother, Bob Carter (Brenda); great-grandchildren, Ellarea, Annalee, Emma, Eli, Annabella, Gracen, Bo, Cambelle, Madelynn, Trey, Daniel, John Brantley, Gunnar, Boone, Westin, Harleigh, and Vivianna; and a special friend, Phillip Garrison.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Celeste Carter; parents, Ed and Ruby Carter; and son Steve Robinson

Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring his life will be 12 p.m. Monday, August 5, 2024, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Tupelo with Bro. Scott Witcher officiating. Graveside services will follow at Lee Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Drew Jordan, Bobby Ratliff, Zach McMickin, Dusty Prather, Jonathan Cheney, and Dee Scruggs.

Honorary pallbearers will be the North Auburn Grocery Breakfast Club.
