Billy Gaines, 76

May 16, 1949  –  August 25, 2025

Billy Charles Gaines, known affectionately as Billy to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. Born on May 16, 1949, in Union County, MS, Billy’s life was marked by his loving nature, adventurous spirit, and creative soul.

Billy’s early years in Mississippi laid the foundation for a life of service and dedication. He earned a four-year degree from Memphis State and went on to honorably serve our nation in the Air Force. His commitment to hard work continued at BNSF Railroad, where he dedicated many years until his retirement. Billy’s faith was an important aspect of his life, and as a devout Christian, he was a cherished member of Hope Baptist Church in Myrtle, MS.

His love for life was evident in his passion for riding motorcycles, a hobby that allowed him to explore and enjoy the freedom of the open road. Billy’s adventurous heart was matched by his loving nature, always putting his family and friends first.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Charles and Willie Vance Jackson Gaines, his brother Johnny Gaines, his grandchild Jessica Turnbough, and his great-grandchild Joseph Billingsley. His legacy continues through his loving family; he is survived by his two daughters, Casey Clement and Treva Wood, and her husband Keith. His memory will be cherished by his four grandchildren, Kaylynn Adler, Jonathan Billingsley, Taylor Appling, and Braxton Contreras, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Elanor Adler and Xander Appling.

Billy’s life was a testament to the words that best describe him: loving, adventurous, and creative. He touched the lives of many with his kindness and warmth, and his memory will be held close in the hearts of those who loved him.
