Billy Joe Greer, 87
July 4, 1937 – April 15, 2025
“Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.” 2 Corinthians 13:11
On Tuesday night, April 15, 2025, Mr. Billy Joe Greer, 87, entered into Glory with his savior, Jesus, after departing this earthly life at the Tippah County Health and Rehab, with family faithfully by his side.
Funeral Service honoring Mr. Billy’s life will be at 1 PM Saturday April 19, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 11 AM until time of service. Jarrod Greer will read the obituary and remarks, Kris Greer will share personal reflections, and Dr. Patrick Chapman will bring the message. Burial will follow in the Dumas Cemetery.
Born the 4th of July 1937 in Shuqualak, MS, which is so fitting for a man as patriotic as Mr. Billy, he was the son of the late Archie Lee and Lillie Ione Garrison Greer. He attended the Buena Vista School where he graduated, before continuing his education with Northeast Mississippi Community College. A man who valued hard work, Mr. Billy could be described as a “Jack of all Trades” owning and operating a well repair business, working on Searcy Farm in Palmetto, Mississippi where he retired, before working as an equipment operator with Lee County. A saved Christian and full follower of Jesus Christ, Mr. Billy attended Union Church of Christ, where he enjoyed gathering with fellow members weekly and singing hymns of worship always.
A lifelong native of Tippah County, in earlier years Mr. Billy found much joy in riding horses, rabbit hunting with his sons, and all things tractors, as he was quite fond of the antiques, and even was featured in a couple magazines for pulling John Deeres. He possessed an easy-going personality, who found joy in the simple blessings of life and was always grateful for the beauty that surrounded him. His willingness to help others and warmth and kindness made him a favorite among family and friends, for even during his last few weeks many made certain to fill his room, showing the great amount of love and respect they had for such a wonderful man. Although his presence here on earth will be greatly missed, we find comfort knowing when the day comes, we can be reunited, Mr. Billy will be there waiting for us, welcoming us into our Heavenly Home.
Those left to carry on his legacy include two sons, Jimmy Greer (Linda Jean), and Jerry Greer, two sisters, Betty Hill (Donald), and Brenda Chapman, one brother, Reuben Greer (Ada Sue), five grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Billy is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Ann Moffitt Greer, and one brother, Ricky Greer.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Wes Davis, Kimmy Dobbs, Ricky Dobbs, Price Elliot, Rob Elliot, John Morrison, Steve Morrison, and Stoney Medlin.
