Billy Maples, 77

July 22, 1947 — March 26, 2025

Plantersville- James William “Billy” Maples passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. He was born on July 22, 1947, to William “Buddy” Riley Maples and Mae Bell Keeton Maples. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Billy dedicated his life to hard work and service. He was a longtime employee of Metalloid Foundry until its closure and later worked at Lowe’s and Wal-Mart. A skilled woodworker in his healthier years, he found joy in crafting with his hands.



Billy was a devoted husband to the late Anita Maples, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage until her passing in January 2025. Billy and Anita were faithful members of South Green Street Baptist Church for many years, attending regularly until their health declined. He was known for his quiet strength, steady work ethic, and kindhearted nature.

Billy is survived by his two sons, Robert Owen Holcomb (Teresa), and Jimmy Allen Holcomb both of Tupelo; 13 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry Maples of Nettleton; nephews, Rocky Roper (Lisa), and Robby Roper (Kendal Coggin); and one great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Mae Bell Maples; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Holcomb; and sister, Julie Ann Holcomb.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring his life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Rev. Bobby Robbins officiating. Burial will follow at Andrews Chapel Cemetery.
