Board of Aldermen Honor Girls’ Volleyball 2025 State Championship, pay more ice storm bills
Special Appearance:
The first item on the May 6, 2026, agenda was to honor the New Albany Girls Volley Ball team for winning the 2025 State Championship in October 2025. It was the first ever MS Championmship win for the team. A city Proclamation is forthcoming; see the MS Legislature’s Resolution below. Coach Ashley Connelly and all her team members are to be congratulated!
I. Departmental Business:
Chase Jeter was moved to the first speaker slot (see Parks & Recreation below).
A. New Albany Light Gas & Water (Bill Mattox)
1. Approved a contract with MDR Construction for permanent repair of damages, not to exceed one million dollars. ( from Ice Storm Fern).
2. Approved three invoices for the Gas Main Replacement Project
-$721,072.75 to A&B Construction for stored material purchase and work to date.
-$8,454.40 to Cook Coggin Engineering for construction inspection services.
-$4593.75 to Cruise Engineeringfor project management & construction.
3. Approved introduction of new Water User Charges Ordinance (final approvl pending schedued discussion at June meeting) and also a matching new policy for NALGW, which can become effective immediately. These items are needed for advancing the State Revolving Loan Fund Application for the water system project on north side of New Albany. Mattox states that all items covered in the ordinance/policy are already in use by NALGW.
4. Approved resolution for submitting a 1 million dollar loan application to the State Revolving Loan Fund and also approving BillMattox as the authorized city representative for the project.
5. Approved the hiring of Casey Henry for the Electric Department.
B. Public Works (Bill Mattox)
1. Approved $48,077.60 to Double S Construction for the East Wells Project.
2. Approved $28,287.57 to Conlee Construction for |Parking Lot Improvements project.
C. Community Development -no appearance
D. Union County Museum -no appearance
E. Police Department (Jeff Chism)
1. Approved addition of two additional autos (dodge Chargers) to the surplus sale. There will be a total of 7 vehicles at the May 30th Surplus sale at the fairgrounds.
2. Approved the addition af an Ordinance covering the sale of Nitrous Oxide.
3. Added approval of one surplus vehicle from NAFD for surplus sail.
F. Parks & Recreation (Chase Jeter): Approved hiring of Allie Randolph.
G. Fire Department (Mark Whiteside)
1. Approved purchase of new generator for Station 1 for $10,950 from low bidder Jumper Electric, with possible additional contract for maintenance of generator.
2. Approved return of skid no longer in use by NAFD to the inventory of Union County.
H. Street Department – no appearance
I. Building Inspector/Zoning Administrator (Curt Clayton)
1. Approved rezoning of 724 Highway 30 E. from SN-8 to SN-5.
2. Approved rezoning of 500 Baker Street from SN-8 to SN-5.
J. Municipal Court – no appearance
K. City Services – no appearance
II. Consent Agenda: Approval of April Claims docket.
III. Executive Session
The 25 minute meeting adjourned until the Tuesday, June 2nd meeting.
