Bobby O. Owen, Sr., 93
March 12, 1932 – August 5, 2025
Bobby Oneil Owen, Sr., known affectionately to friends and loved ones as Bobby O., departed this life on August 5, 2025, in his hometown of New Albany, MS, at the age of 93. Born on March 12, 1932, to the late Rod L. Owen and Zora Odell Kent Owen, Bobby’s life was a tapestry of service, dedication, and love that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Bobby’s journey began in the same community where he would later say his goodbyes. His roots ran deep in New Albany, a place that shaped the man he would become. The Owen family home was filled with the laughter and camaraderie of his many brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded him in death. It was here that Bobby developed the values of family and hard work that would guide him throughout his life.
After bravely serving his country and earning the title of Corporal, Bobby returned home to build a life that was as sturdy and steadfast as the furniture he crafted. For forty-two years, he dedicated his skillful hands to the furniture industry at Stratford/Mohasco, earning the respect and friendship of his colleagues. His work ethic was unmatched, and his contributions to the industry remain a testament to his character.
Bobby’s love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Lucille Bullock Owen, and a loving father to his only son, Bobby O. Owen, Jr., who also preceded him in death. His legacy lives on through his two grandsons, Blake Owen (Straley) and Brent Owen (Jennifer), and his great-grandchildren, Lauren McKay, Miller Owen, Mason Owen, Sam Owen, and Mollie Ruth Owen. They will forever cherish the memories of their time spent with him and the lessons he imparted.
A proud Christian, Bobby’s faith was a source of strength and comfort throughout his life. He was a man of kindness, wisdom, and gentleness—a beacon of light for those around him. His involvement with the American Legion was not just a pastime but a continuation of his commitment to his fellow servicemen and women and the country he loved so dearly.
An avid quail hunter, Bobby found joy in the companionship of his bird dogs and the peace of the great outdoors. The rolling fields of his farm were his sanctuary, where he relished the simple pleasure of riding around and taking in the beauty of nature.
Bobby O. Owen was a man who lived his life with purpose and grace. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. His gentle spirit and the echoes of his laughter will forever resonate in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Bobby’s journey on earth has ended, but his story—a story of love, honor, and dignity—will continue to inspire for generations to come.
Services to honor his life will be Friday, August 8. 2025, at United Funeral Service at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 pm. The American Legion Post 72 will conduct military honors and serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
