Boyd Wilhite, 89
September 10, 1935 – October 30, 2024
William Boyd Wilhite, 89, affectionately known as Boyd to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024, in his hometown of New Albany, MS, the same place where his story began on September 10, 1935. Born to the late Robert Thomas (Jack) Wilhite and Ella Mae Cook Wilhite, Boyd’s life was a testament to the values of love, faith, and service that he held dear.
Boyd’s journey through life was shared with his loving wife of sixty-five years, Helen Mayo Wilhite. Together, they raised a family that includes their son, Ronnie Wilhite (Holly), and daughter, Rhonda Wilhite Dowdy (Kenny). Boyd’s legacy continued to flourish through his grandchildren, Tyler Dowdy (Kala), Alex Wilhite Harden (Jacob), and Cooper Wilhite, as well as his cherished great-grandson, Lennox Dowdy. He also held a special place in his heart for his bonus grandchildren, Natalie Robbins (Christopher), and Stephanie Davis (Dustin), and bonus great-grandchildren, Jackson Robbins, Cade Robbins, Tyler Bailey, and Evee Gillen.
Boyd was a beloved brother to Dorothy Wilhite, Johnny “Cotton” Wilhite, and Tommy Wilhite (Debbie). His life was enriched by the presence of numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Frances Wilhite Herod; his brothers, Loyd Wilhite, Lavon Wilhite, and Bobby Wilhite; and a special grandson, Ryne Wilhite, whom he visited the grave of on a daily basis to honor his precious memory.
Throughout his career, Boyd was a dedicated worker in the furniture industry, with his final years before retirement spent at Silver Oaks. His work ethic was unmatched, but it was his service outside of work that truly defined him. Boyd was a faithful and devoted Christian man who loved his church, Martin Baptist Church. He served with humility and dedication as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and on various committees. His commitment to his faith was evident in every aspect of his life.
Boyd also gave back to his community through his involvement with the Martin Cemetery Committee, where he helped to preserve the local heritage for future generations. His love for his community was a reflection of his overall love for people and his desire to serve others.
Family was the cornerstone of Boyd’s life. He delighted in traveling to watch his grandchildren participate in various sports, a pastime that brought him immense joy. Boyd’s love for the outdoors was evident in the time he spent on his tractor and tending to his cows. To him, work was more than a necessity; it was a hobby and a passion.
Those who knew Boyd will remember him as a loving, faith-filled, and selfless man. His gentle spirit and unwavering dedication to his family and community left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. Boyd’s life was a living example of the values he held dear, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him to live with the same kindness and generosity of spirit.
Boyd’s life will be celebrated in a service that reflects the love and respect he garnered throughout his years Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Martin Baptist Church with Bro. Andy Russell officiating, and the visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Burial will be at Martin Cemetery. As we say goodbye to a man who was much more than the sum of his years, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy of love, faith, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
