Bruce Elder, 71

June 12, 1954  –  January 27, 2026

Walter Bruce Elder, 71, passed away peacefully on the 27th of January, 2026, at his residence in New Albany, MS. Born on June 11, 1954, in Union County, MS, Bruce’s life was one marked by devotion, laughter, and an abundance of love.

Bruce leaves behind a legacy of warmth and family, survived by his beloved wife, Pat Adair Elder, his cherished daughter Stacy Hamblin and her husband Wayne, and his adored sons, Jeff Elder with his wife Andrea, and Patrick Elder with his wife Britney. His spirit will continue to shine in his sister Cheryl Jarvis and her husband Tim, and his brother Mike Elder with his wife Wanda. The light of his life, his fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, will forever hold onto the memories and lessons of their grandfather’s love.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roger Brooks Elder and Lily Bernice Pannell Elder, and his brother Donald Elder.

Bruce came from a rooted Christian background and found solace and strength in his faith. His days at Keownville Baptist Church were spent in both fellowship and service, where he played the steel guitar with a passion that resonated within the souls of all who listened. His musical contributions through the gospel group Faithfully His will forever echo in the hearts of many.

As a retired city worker, Bruce’s career as a street sweeper operator for the City of New Albany was characterized by dedication and a robust work ethic. His love for tinkering, however, did not end there. His penchant for mowing, repairing small engines, and an unparalleled skill in reviving seemingly lifeless items, earned him a reputation as a remarkably handy man. Bruce had the remarkable gift of turning the discarded into treasures, bringing both usefulness and joy from the unexpected.

Those who knew him best will remember Bruce’s quick wit and generous laughter, remembering him as a man who found humor and joy in the simple things. A proud grandfather and great-grandfather, he cherished every moment spent with his family and imparted wisdom mixed with humor and love in every interaction.

Celebrated for his loving, funny, and handy nature, Bruce’s presence was a gift to all who knew him and he will be dearly remembered and profoundly missed.
