Buddy Young, 83
March 30, 1941 – January 15, 2025
BREWER / OLD UNION – Buddy Young cut a wide path in 83 years that included selfless service to his God, his Country and his family. Robert Lee Young was born in Shannon on March 30, 1941 to the late Milton Lee Young and Ozema Merle Wright Young. Buddy grew up in the Brewer/Shannon/Verona area in a large close knit family who loved to enjoy life, eat and fellowship unceasingly. Never scared of work, Buddy was industrious all his life. After enlisting in the U. S. Air Force and serving his country with patriotism and honor, Buddy worked as a heavy equipment operator, a diesel mechanic and found his long calling in the Water well industry for over 40 years where he became a master well pump repairman and was highly sought after to keep water safe and well functioning all across the Mid-south. Buddy loved good conversation, laughter, was a practical jokester with everyone and always brought joy to his family and friends everywhere. He and Pat traveled extensively in their motor home. Buddy loved hanging out at Brewer Grocery, Griggs in Shannon and in the Old Union community where he and Pat lived the last 50 years visiting friends and spinning yarns as no one else could. He was a longtime member of the Brewer United Methodist Church.
A celebration of life service with military honors will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Brewer United Methodist Church with Rev. Kerry Powell officiating assisted by Rev. Jamie Bailey. His brother-in-law, Bro. Jerry Estes will deliver family reflections. Visitation will be Friday evening, Jan. 17, 2025 from 4 PM to 6 PM at Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo and again from 12 PM to service time Saturday at the Brewer UMC. Private burial will take place at Brewer Cemetery next to his beloved wife, Pat. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to serve their family and friends.
Buddy is survived by his children, Robert Young, Jr. (Lisa) of Brewer, Milton Young (Kay) of Burleson, TX, and Bill Young (Laurie) of Okolona, MS; grandchildren, Kristin Mullins (Jeremy) of Old Union, Renae Morris (Brandon) of Plantersville, Katelyn Schneider (Nathan) of Mansfield, TX, Ashley Headstream (Tanner) of Burleson, TX, Brandon Young (Joyce) of Plantersville, MS, Devin Young (Melonie) of Plantersville, and Nikki Young of Brewer; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Jacob, Bennett, Alex, Thomas, Wesley, Cooper, Landon, Little Cooper, Rush, and Spencer; his brother, Johnny Young (Carol) of Olive Branch, MS, and sisters, Marie Whitt of Brewer (Jerry Whitt, deceased), Carolyn Powell (David) of Brewer, Marilyn Swindle Burns (Walter) of Tupelo, and Peggy Estes (Jerry) of Shannon; his sister-in-law, Barbara Young of Nashville; many nieces, nephews, cousins, Pat’s relatives and a multitude of friends.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Merle Young; his step-mother, Ruby Young; his wife of 58 years, Pat Chambers Young whom he married Nov. 5, 1966 and who died December 4, 2023; a daughter, Polly Young and a brother, Russell Young.
Pallbearers will be Mike Phillips, Tim Young, Tommy Lindsey, Brandon Young, Devin Young, Daniel Mullins, Jacob Mullins, and Bobby Chambers. Honorary pallbearers will be Homan McFarling and Gerald Vinson.
