Mr. Charlie was born March 4, 1943, in Shelby County, Tennessee, to the late Malvin and Alice Onie Rossell Pickens. A graduate of Myrtle Attendance Center, he proudly served his country as a Naval engineer from 1963 until 1967, during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard aircraft carrier. He received many medals while serving his country which included the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. His life changed forever on July 10,1976, when he married his true love, Patricia “Pat” Floyd Pickens, marking the start of a beautiful journey together. For fifty-eight years, being also known as “Lowboy” on the CB radio to all his trucker friends, he drove 18–wheelers for companies including Blue Mountain Trucking, Mohasco Furniture, Cotton Plant Trucking and Lane Heard Trucking before retiring four years ago.
A member of Academy Baptist Church, he was an avid fisherman who loved to camp. He was overjoyed when he and Mrs. Pat bought a home located near Tippah County Lake, knowing long drives to catch a few fish were a thing of the past. Being known as an easy-going, man of few words, he was a hard worker and a wonderful provider for his family. Although Mr. Charlie had no children of his own, he adored and called Mrs. Pat’s children, Leigh Ann and Chris, his own. Known as “Paw”, he loved his family, his friends, which were many, and the Lord. Mr. Charlie will forever be missed by all that loved him, but they have peace knowing he is rejoicing in heaven with his Lord and his beloved Pat.
Precious memories will continue to be shared by one daughter, Leigh Ann Kingsley (Mark Potts), one son, Christopher Blake Daniels, one sister, Betty Hall, two granddaughters, Kristin Lunn (Dustin) and Joni Mooneyham and two great-grandsons, Tucker Lunn and Ryder Wiles.
He is preceded in death by his wife of forty-eight years, Patricia “Pat” Floyd Pickens and one brother, Dwight “Peanut” Pickens.
