Charles Stuart Hyatt, 96

June 1, 1928  –  March 25, 2025

SALTILLO – Charles Stuart Hyatt, better known as Charlie to most, departed this earthly pilgrimage for his eternal home from his Saltillo residence on March 25, 2025. He was 96 years old. Charlie was born in Hope, Arkansas on June 1, 1928 to the late Benjamin Carroll Hyatt and Florence Spragins Hyatt. Charlie graduated from Hope High School, received his BA degree from Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. and, later received his MA from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. Much joy came to him when he married Joy Lynne Buckley on June 1, 1952 in First UMC in Pine Bluff, Ark., a marriage of 72 years until his death. Joy, his wife, survives. Charles served his country in the US Navy and began a career with the Social Security Administration in 1962 retiring in 1990 after 38 years of service as District Manager of Northeast Arkansas. He and Joy lived much of their adult life in Jonesboro until moving to Tupelo in 2007 to be near their daughters. He and Joy were active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Tupelo.



A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 PM Saturday, April 5, 2025 in the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church in Tupelo. Visitation will be from 1 PM-service time in McFadden Hall at the Church. Inurnment will follow in the Church Columbarium in Stuart Place. Immediate survivors include his wife, Joy, and his three children, Alice Alexander (Morris) of Tupelo, Stuart Hyatt of Oregon and Dr. Susan Hyatt of Tupelo, and their families.
