UPDATED 9-14-22: Child suffers gunshot wound in incident early Tuesday evening near Union/Pontotoc County line

UPDATE: 11:20 am. Sept 14.

NEMiss.News contacted the office of Pontotoc County Sheriff Leo Mask twice this morning. The only additional details they could report were these:

The incident happened on Wise Bend Road west of Ecru.

The toddler was playing in the yard with other children when shot.

The child shooting victim was said to be in good condition at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis.

Sheriff Mask described it as a “drive by shooting,” but could not say whom the shooter intended to hit.

The sheriff said the shooter may have been driving a dark colored motor vehicle.

 

Following reported by NEMiss.News at 11 pm, Tuesday, Sept. 13

A child, reported to be about two years old, was wounded by gunfire about 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, Sept. 13, 2022.

The incident occurred at a residence in Pontotoc County near the Union County line. The child was first brought to the emergency room at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany. The victim was then transferred by ambulance to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis.

There were reports, not confirmed by law enforcement, that the child was wounded by a drive-by shooter driving a dark colored SUV.

Law enforcement officers from Pontotoc and Union County were still investigating as this was written at 11 p.m. Tuesday evening. Name of victim and other details of the shooting were not available.
