Christine Merritt, 88

October 15, 1936 – January 3, 2025

Mary Christine Jobe Merritt, 88, of Myrtle, Mississippi, passed away Friday, January 3, 2025, at her home. She was born in New Albany, in 1936 to Carl and James Jobe. She was a founding member of New Hope Baptist Church. She dedicated her life to serve the Lord as a pastor’s wife. She loved the Lord, her family, her church family, and a host of friends. She shared her love and kindness with everyone she met, and was lovingly known as Mamaw to everyone.

She was preceded in death by her husband; Reverend William J. Merritt; her parents, Carl and James Jobe; two brothers, Arnold Jobe and David Jobe; and one sister, Jerry Mears.

She is survived by her sister, Jackie Cowsert; her children, Diane (Randy) Yager, Keith Merritt, Kristie (John) Clark, and Staci (Bobby) Lowrey; Deanna (Ricky) Jordan, Phillip (Morgan) Little, and Ashley (Brad) Watkins; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 6 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Church. Burial will be at Glenfield Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Connor Merritt, Christopher Morman, Ricky Jordan, Jon Estes, Logan McDonald, Jamie Clark,

Honorary Pallbearers will include Brandon Merritt, Phillip Little, and Luke Summerford.
