Christmas on Bankhead to feature tree lighting Thursday

“All are welcome!” is the call from New Albany Main Street Association and Magnolia Civic Center-Ciné Theatre as they bring the second annual holiday-spirited evening to downtown New Albany this Thursday, Nov. 19.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with Mississippi Smooth Carriage Service’s horse and carriage rides, a hot cocoa counter hosted by the New Albany and Union County High School Anchors, and pictures with Santa in his sleigh in front of the Coca-Cola mural.

Ivy Jordan, New Albany’s Miss Hospitality, and her Junior Miss, Skylar Grace Wilson, will help Santa light the tree at 6 p.m.

To keep the festivities going, Magnolia Civic Center has organized live music from local carolers, Clint Reid and Midnight Train. Union County Library staff is bringing a wagon full of take-home crafts for families to enjoy.

Organizers ask that anyone who is able to please bring a new toy or monetary donation. All donations will go to the New Albany Gazette’s Sharing at Christmas.

“Everyone involved has created a fun holiday event for the community to enjoy,” noted Billye Jean Stroud, Main Street and Community Development director, “and we hope to see our locals out having a fun time with family and friends.”

If you need more information, have questions, would like to volunteer or donate, please call the Main Street office, 662-534-3438 or email visitnewalbany@gmail.com.
