Clarice Collums, 76

November 7, 1947 – June 23, 2024

New Albany – Clarice Arlene Ball Collums, known affectionately as Clarice to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2024, at the age of 76 in New Albany, Mississippi. Born on November 7, 1947, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, to the late Theo and Ruby Wilder Ball, Clarice grew up surrounded by the warmth and charm of the South, which deeply influenced the gracious and hospitable woman she became.

A dedicated educator, Clarice earned her Master’s of Education from Mississippi State University and devoted her career to nurturing young minds at Mattie Thompson Elementary. Her passion for teaching was evident in the way she engaged with her students and the lasting impact she left on countless lives. Even after her retirement, Clarice’s influence remained a beacon of inspiration within the community.

Clarice was the beloved mother of Andrea Collums Myers and cherished grandmother to Emma and Ellie Myers, who brought immense joy and pride to her life. She relished every moment spent with her granddaughters, whether it was watching them excel in their sports or simply enjoying their company. Clarice’s love for her family was a testament to her loving and kindhearted nature.

She was also a loving sister to Linda Ball Reeves, with whom she shared a special bond and countless adventures. The sisters’ travels were filled with laughter and cherished memories that Linda will hold dear forever. Clarice was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Cecil “Butch” Collums, who was her partner in life and love.

Clarice’s interests extended beyond her family and profession. She was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels, delivering not only nourishment but also companionship to those she served. Her competitive spirit shone through on the tennis courts, where she enjoyed playing the game and forming lasting friendships. As a member of the Garden Club, Clarice took pleasure in tending to her garden, sharing her knowledge, and appreciating the beauty of nature.

Her home was filled with the love of her pets, her dog Lucy, and her two cats, Aubie and Petey. They were not just pets but members of her family, receiving the same love and care that she extended to all.

Clarice’s life was a portrait of love, kindness, and intelligence. She approached every endeavor with a thoughtful mind and a generous heart. Her presence was a comfort, her advice was sought after, and her laughter was infectious. Those who knew Clarice were touched by her genuine spirit and the unconditional love she offered.

As we bid farewell to Clarice Arlene Ball Collums, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy of love and education that will continue to resonate. She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
