Community baby shower for dads supports and celebrates fatherhood

Attention Dads and expectant Dads in  Clay, Chickasaw, Lowndes, Lee, Monroe, and Prentiss counties.

Tupelo, MS – In collaboration with local organizations and businesses, a baby shower for dads is set to help support and celebrate area fathers and families.

Baby Shower for Dads is a free event that was created to offer information, tools, and supplies necessary to new, current, expectant fathers and families of northeast Mississippi. This event is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 10 am – 2 pm, hosted by Parkhill Dynasty, 321 Tolbert St, Tupelo. Click link below to reserve your seat.

With the support of the Mississippi State Department of Health, this event is presented by the State of Mississippi Organization, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Omega Mu Mu chapter, Tupelo, MS, and the Northeast MS Healthy Start Consortium.

“Too often, fathers are left out of the conversation regarding early parenting support,” said Ray Shoemaker, Consortium Lead. “This event is about changing that narrative — celebrating dads, equipping them with tools, and building a community around them. When fathers are engaged, families and children thrive.”

Baby Shower for Dads will offer free resources, baby supplies, and gifts to the community while providing workshops on parenting, health, wellness, and financial literacy. Organizers will provide food, prizes, raffles, and giveaways for all who attend.

In addition, this event is a great opportunity to volunteer. High school students can receive 8 service hours for volunteering. Please reserve your spot online.

The Northeast MS Healthy Start Consortium is an affiliate of the State of MS Department of Health. In August 2024, it began implementing recommended specific policies and system changes that may reduce disparities among infants and mothers (expecting and new) in target regions. Ray Shoemaker will lead this mission in Clay, Chickasaw, Lowndes, Lee, Monroe, and Prentiss counties.

A recent survey by the MS Department of Health (MSDH) stated that infant mortality rates have continued to be less than desirable across the United States. Mississippi has shown the greatest need for interventions to combat the problem. Northeast MS Healthy Start Consortium is tasked with accomplishing activities focused on one or more identified social determinants of health, and they determined that maternal and infant health awareness and support systems are needed.
Ray Shoemaker added, “As lead for the Northeast Mississippi Healthy Start Consortium, I am deeply committed to improving maternal and infant health outcomes in our communities. By providing personalized support, education, and resources to families, we aim to reduce health disparities and ensure that every child has a healthy start in life.”

Community members are encouraged to help support this community outreach project. To become a sponsor, donor, or vendor, contact Ray Shoemaker, NEMSHS Consortium Lead, via email at rlsnemshsc@gmail.com.
