Community Christmas Meal reminder
Organizers are reminding the public that this year’s annual Community Christmas Meal will be this Saturday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The free event is held each year at the New Albany Middle School Cafeteria and typically draws crowds.
The meal began as a 2011 food drive and then expanded to serve students and others in need of nutrition.
Later, organizers decided to simply open the event up to the community at large.
Although started by educators, it has become a community effort of individuals working together. The city school trustees allow use of the Middle School cafeteria for the meal and administrators, teachers, community members, and students volunteer to work the event and or donate needed items.
The meal typically includes items such as turkey and ham, dressing, sweet potato casseroles, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, desserts and tea.
In additional to the traditional holiday meal, those attending may visit Santa Claus, participate in crafts and games or simply enjoy live Christmas music. A free clothes closet will also be there.
While the community meal was established to benefit the needy of our community, everyone is welcome.
Carry-out meals will be available.

The cafeteria is at 400 Apple Street.
