Warm weather sees several local construction projects move ahead
The late arrival of warm spring weather has apparently helped spur on several local construction-related projects, which people may have noticed.
The slab was being poured for the addition to New Haven Center for Special Needs Adults, which will provide a new large dining and multi-purpose area plus ADA-accessible restrooms. Also included is expansion of the kitchen, which had not been improved in more than 50 years.
Crews were putting the sidewalls up on the 100,000 square foot Enhance Mississippi building shell in the Martintown Industrial Park. The building is being paid for by a group of investors with the hope that it can attract and be sold to a new industry, which will then finish the structure to meet its needs. The idea came partly because the county had so little empty industrial space available to market.
A dry spell has allowed businessman and landscape architect Sam Creekmore to move ahead with plans to build luxury apartments on South Central Avenue across from Wilson Park. The complex will back up to the Tanglefoot Trail.
Work is also moving ahead on a new large-scale car wash on Park Plaza Drive south of Tractor Supply Company.
Finally, a recycling company from Indianola began removing debris from the demolished New Albany Grocery Company warehouse near the museum. The museum purchased the building and property for unspecified future use, although parking is one possible purpose. The debris pile was visible from various parts of the city. Some of the brick from the building will be saved for the museum while the rest of the brick and timber – some of it very large – will be recycled.
