Couple sought in car theft now face church burglary charges

The couple recently arrested in Florida for a car theft here are also facing church burglary charges and under investigation for possible other crimes.

Police Chief Chris Robertson said the two, Daniel Cruz Britt, 33, 219 E. Hud St., Leesburg, and Kalley Breanne Foreman, 24, 1012 Moss Hill Drive, were initially accused of taking a tan 2013 Hyundai Elantra from a 301 Mississippi address Aug. 12. They were staying there at the time.

When police asked the public for help in finding the two they apparently fled to Florida.

Three days after the theft here, police from Taveras, Fla. were investigating a suspicious person call and reportedly found the two asleep in the vehicle with the engine running outside a Circle K in Leesburg.

When their identification was entered in the NCIC crime information system Lake County officers learned the vehicle was reported stolen and they were wanted here.

“Britt was brought back here the 18th,” Robertson said.

At that time the chief announced the two are charged with the Aug. 8 burglary of Moss Hill Baptist Church and Aug. 10 burglary of Calvary United Methodist Church.

Bond for Britt was set at $5,000 for taking the car and $50,000 each for the two burglary charges, totaling $105,000. He remains in custody.

The chief said Foreman has been charged with narcotics and weapons offenses for possession of Oxycodone and Ecstasy as well as a loaded firearm when they were taken into custody. She remained in Florida as of Friday.

“When she makes bond we will go and get her as well,” he said. Her charges and bond here will be the same as for Britt and officers said they believe her bond in Florida will be $5,000.

The stolen vehicle was recovered and the owner is being notified, Robertson said, and investigators have been able to recover nearly all the stolen items, mostly electronics and sound equipment.

The same night as the break-in at the Moss Hill church, someone burglarized Blue Springs Baptist Church.

“It would be a fantastic coincidence to have two church burglaries the same night that are not related, but apparently that is what happened,” the chief said.

“I believe the sheriff has suspects in that case that may be connected to a church burglary in a neighboring county,” Robertson added.

Robertson said Britt and Foreman remain under investigation. Both apparently were known to officers and they said that Britt has a prior conviction for armed robbery.
