Dale Harrison Peaster, 73
October 21, 1951 – January 2, 2025
OKOLONA – Dale Harrison Peaster, age 73, gained his heavenly home on January 2, 2025, in Tupelo, MS. He was born to Archie and Esther Voth Peaster on October 21, 1951 in Turlock, CA. He spent his childhood in Winton, CA and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on January 19, 1965. Dad loved the Lord, the church and was an encouragement to many, especially those he referred to as the “poor and the blind”. On January 10, 1971, he was united in marriage to Sherie Unruh. They reached nearly 54 years in marriage, sharing together in the joys and sorrows of life. They spent two years in 1W service in Albuquerque, New Mexico and at Grace Nursing Home in Livingston, CA. Dad continued to work at Grace Nursing Home, after which they moved to Okolona, MS, where he began to farm. He later transitioned to manufacturing, working years at Rose Hill, Bell Creek Farms and United Furniture.
One of Dad’s favorite hobbies was wood crafting, and he spent many hours in his workshop. His last project was on Christmas Eve, to refurbish the handle of a hammer and reassemble it to give as a gift for our yearly family drawing. Spending Christmas day in the ICU, he was not able to present his gift. Dad enjoyed the simple things of life, and was content with little. He never wanted to have more than just enough. Family time was very precious to him and a highlight was that he took Mom and us girls to the Smoky Mountains many times through the years to spend time together. He was always interested in the lives of his nephews and nieces. He really enjoyed old tractors, often giving rides on them to his grandchildren and small children. In his later years he enjoyed using his old tractors to farm a small patch of soybeans and vegetables.
After retiring from manufacturing, Dad thoroughly enjoyed traveling nearly every week with Mom to Hurricane Mills, TN for 3 years, to work at Overholt’s Farm Market. He especially enjoyed interacting with customers and delivery drivers and kept the market shelves well stocked.
Several hours before his last breath, after having been unresponsive, Dad reached his arm into the air and we believe he was reaching out for Jesus to take his hand and lead him to the other side.
Left with aching hearts are his grieving wife, Sherie Peaster, daughters, Debbie and Chris Harris, Amory, MS, Janet and Nathan Overholt, Hurricane Mills, TN, Kara and Wayne Whitt, Amory, MS, fourteen grandchildren, Mariah, Madison, Daniel, Joanna, Zebedee, Andrew, Bella, Tabitha, Huldah, Boaz, Thaddaeus, Kezia, Julia and Nathan James, his brother, Larry and Verna Peaster, sister, Gloria Buller, mother in law, Wanda Ratzloff and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Esther Peaster, father in law Vaden Unruh, step father in law, Virgil Ratzloff, nephew Vaden Unruh, brother in law, Glenn Unruh, infant sister, Ramona, brother in law, Verle Buller and niece, Renee Peaster.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 AM on Sunday, January 5, 2025 in the Okolona Mennonite Church in Okolona, MS. Visitation will be at the church from 5 PM to 8 PM on Saturday, January 4, 2025. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to serve their friends.
